White Hot Mess
This is certainly a continuation of my love of meshing different styles of music into a song. It was on my second Euro tour with Waco Jesus that it began to dawn on me that metal heads seem to really like fast tunes that you can bang your head to (I know, right?) and that maybe I should try jumping on that boat. Not that I haven’t written fast songs in the past; it’s just that my tunes seem to be either too fast or too slow, which leaves crowds kinda standing still and staring. Granted, that seems to be the preferred posture of everyone at a DOP show. If only I could find a way of marketing “standing still and staring” as the next “moshing,” then I’d finally make it! Anywho, so the majority of the song is a fast punk beat, which bored me, so there’s a little grind, a little sludge, and then the kinda gypsy theme towards the end, which is a straight up rip-off of the theme song on Dexter. Once I finally moved into my new house, there was a lot of Netflix, and I rifled through Dexter in about three months (instead of recording the album). Anyways, one day I was noodling on the guitar while watching Dexter and out came a bastardized version of the theme song—in it went. Lyrically, this song is just straight-up bitching about my new family; I’m gonna avoid names on the off chance any of them read this. That’s unlikely, because one of them asked me for an album once, but she didn’t wanna pay me for it (you know, to support a dude) and then asked if she could give it back if she didn’t like it. I just let the day pass on that one and guess what, she forgot. WHITE HOT MESS!!
