6. Los Brothers Hermanos
I intentionally wanted to write a sequel to “Bud and Earl.” That tune has been fairly important to me for eighteen years now, and people seem to like it, so might as well keep a good thing going. Mary and I binge-watched Breaking Bad within our first couple of years of dating, and there were these two characters on the show that the Internet refers to as “the cousins.” We called them “Los Brothers Hermanos,” the brothers brothers. They were these assassins that are never named and never speak, and every time they were on screen, Mary and I would get excited. So, obviously the name needed to be the title of a song, and obviously it needed to have a Latin flair to it. Every Latin/Spanish/Mexican trope and melody is in this tune on purpose. Lyrically, one verse is all Breaking Bad references, while the rest of it deals a little with the struggle of being in the underground. Be it music, comics, or wrestling, you’ve got to put in about 10 times the effort in order to advance yourself just a little bit. The chorus goes, “We will drive to the ends of the earth for free. Trying to believe in something, we’ll see.”
